June 17, 2009 —  TopQuadrant has released a modeling tool for developers who still aren't entirely sure how to deal with the Semantic Web. TopBraid Composer Free Edition, released today, is based on Eclipse, and gives developers the tools needed to model and view resource description framework (RDF) files. TopQuadrant claims that TopBraid Composer can be used to lower the barrier of entry to companies looking to unlock the Semantic Web.

Holger Knublauch, VP of product development at TopQuadrant, said that “there is fast-growing interest from all industries to understand the unique data quality, data integration and dynamic discovery benefits that Semantic Web technology has to offer. But we recognize that unfamiliarity with W3C Semantic Web standards and costs are two obstacles prohibiting many organizations from starting a Semantic Web project. By offering a free version of our modeling environment, we are removing these barriers.”

TopBraid Composer Free Edition includes the tools needed to view, build and understand RDF models. TopQuadrant claims that its tool allows developers to create RDF files and link them together automatically, without the need to learn Web Ontology Language.

Additionally, TopBraid Composer Free Edition includes support for the RDF query language, SPARQL. Using SPARQL, developers can link business logic to specific Semantic Web queries.

TopBraid Composer Free Edition is available at the company's site.
