June 1, 2009 —  Business process management provider Active Endpoints has secured US$5 million in an extension of its Series B funding. North Bridge Venture Partners was the main donor of the funding. Active Endpoints executives said the funding will be used for research and development, as well as for marketing.

IBM has acquired the assets of Exeros, a data discovery software provider based in Santa Clara. Exeros is privately held, and company executives said its technology uncovers hidden relationships between databases, which helps users understand disparate data sources quicker. Over the next several months, IBM will incorporate Exeros into its Information Management Software line. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Oracle has reached an agreement to acquire Virtual Iron Software, a Lowell, Mass.-based provider of server virtualization products. Virtual Iron’s technology complements Oracle’s VM server virtualization platform, Oracle executives said, and will provide capacity and power management, as well as integration with open APIs. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. 

EARNINGS
BMC Software reported full-year fiscal 2009 revenues of US$1.87 billion, an 8% growth from the year before. Fiscal 2009 fourth-quarter revenue was US$479 million, an increase of 3% from the same quarter a year before. Net earnings for the quarter were $83 million, a drop from $97 million in the same quarter a year ago.  

CA reported full-year fiscal 2009 revenues of US$4.271 billion, compared to the $4.277 billion in revenue reported in the prior year. Total revenue for the fourth quarter was $1.035 billion, down 5% from the $1.085 billion reported in the similar period last fiscal year. The company also said net income for the full year was $694 million, compared with net income of $500 million in the prior fiscal year. Net income for the fourth quarter was $72 million, a slight increase from the $71 million reported in the fourth quarter a year ago.

Business process management and business process analysis company Metastorm reported a 16% increase in license revenue over revenue from the first quarter of fiscal year 2008. The company is privately owned, so it did not disclose exact figures.

Quest Software announced a 4.2% decrease in revenue to US$165.6 million from $172.8 million in the first quarter of 2009 ending March 31, compared to the first quarter of 2008. Net income for the quarter was $9.9 million, compared to $13.3 million the year before. Operating income increased year-over-year to $18.7 million from $9.5 million.
