Composite Software introduces data virtualization designer

May 5, 2009 —  Composite Software, an information management software maker, has introduced a new edition of its data virtualization product that introduces an Eclipse-based designer to help developers decouple data from their applications into middleware.

Composite Information Server 5.0, released today, includes an Eclipse designer for creating data services; it is optimized for Java, XML and XQuery development. The tooling automatically generates data services from Web Services Description Language (WSDL) documents and adheres to Service Component Architecture for component reuse.

"We allow a developer to load corporate WSDL, and Composite Information Server generates the skeleton and glue layer automatically, [reducing] complexity of creating maps from low-level data into an abstract WSDL," said Avtandil Garakanidze, vice president of product development for Composite.

The developer can then focus on creating business logic, and can reuse components by calling them from XQuery or Java modules, he added.

The designer also provides powerful data transformation capabilities, said Garakanidze. Data services require a lot of complex transformations to map a data service to output WSDLs, he noted. "We offer a graphical editor with a drag-and-drop interface that a developer can use to easily take any input, massage data to transform it, and map it to output components."
