Infragistics launches UI pattern catalogue

February 2, 2009 —  Component maker Infragistics is branching out into the end-user experience market with a Silverlight-powered online catalogue of UI patterns, called Quince.

Quince, expected to be launched as a free public resource this month, has an initial set of 90 patterns that are based on common UI interactions, said Jason Beres, director of product management.
The patterns can be filtered by keywords or by meta tags around major categories of tasks. All of Quince's content can be tracked via RSS feeds.

Each pattern has resources for developers to learn more about how to implement it, and Infragistics says that comments and suggestions contributed by the Quince community will also become a resource, Beres stated.

"Infragistics has been in the UI component business for 20 years. Over time, we became experts in how to build user interfaces and what goes into a UI—what those patterns are, and how people can use them," Beres said.

Developers may want their applications to mimic Microsoft Outlook's interface; Quince helps them determine how to implement that in their applications, he explained.
