Coverity adds concurrency checking for C#

Coverity, a company that develops code-analysis software, updated its Prevent static analysis suite with new concurrency checkers for C#, and it introduced checkers for Win32 applications that are written in C and C++. The update, marking version 4.3 of Prevent, came yesterday.

Coverity also broadened Prevent's support of platforms and tooling for Microsoft technologies. As of the 4.3 release, Prevent now runs on Windows Vista and integrates with Visual Studio 2005 and 2008. Mark Donsky, director of product management, said that the release also works with Eclipse 3.2 and later.

Coverity added C# language support to Prevent last July. The new concurrency checkers can discover deadlocks and race conditions—two common parallel programming defects—in code at compile time, Donsky said. Coverity's Win32 concurrency checkers can discover the same issues, he added.

Prevent can provide static analysis for Windows Automotive, Windows Mobile, Windows Vista, Windows XP and the Xbox. It also runs on FreeBSD, HP-UX, Linux, NetBSD, and Solaris, and it supports Java applications as well.

The update is available to existing customers free of charge.
