COMPANIES
Coverity has partnered with software security company Cigital to help enterprises deliver complex software by finding and fixing defects earlier in the software development life cycle, executives of the two companies said. Cigital will use Coverity technology to improve code quality, while Coverity products will have a more secure software development life cycle with Cigital.

NEW PRODUCTS
Outsourced product development and consulting company Scio Consulting has created services for assisting small and medium-sized software companies in transitioning products to run in a software-as-a-service environment. SaaS Acceleration Solutions is made up of three components: SaaS Evaluation Readiness, which offers business planning, market analysis and application evaluation; SaaS Technical Assessment, which identifies potential performance and security issues; and SaaS Application Development Services, which leverage software development resources for building SaaS applications.

Mobile device software company Sierra Wireless has made available a software development kit for developing on Linux. The SDK provides access to the Sierra Wireless Command and Status API that includes commands for voice, data connections and SMS.

UPDATES
Business application company 4D has added text-indexing capabilities to version 2.0 of its Knowledgebase information resource for developers building business applications on the 4D platform. Included in Knowledgebase 2.0 are a new UI, with a docking ability, and customization options that allow users to create their own list of display items.

Adobe has created a Linux version of Adobe AIR 1.5, its rich Internet application runtime. AIR 1.5 includes functionality introduced in Adobe Flash Player 10, such as the ability to use custom filters and effects, native 3D transformation and animation, and extensible rich text layout. Adobe AIR 1.5 is also available for Windows and Mac OS X.

SOA governance specialist AmberPoint has added integration between its SOA governance and management products and the Microsoft platform. With AmberPoint’s integration with Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Microsoft Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration, organizations running applications on WCF can ensure the wellbeing of their distributed composite applications, the company said.
