Chipmaker AMD announced that it laid off 600 employees, 100 more than first announced, in the previous quarter. Additionally, the company said it expects to record about US$70 million in restructuring costs, which is higher than the $50 million that it had predicted earlier.
Software security consulting firm Cigital named John Wyatt as its new president and CEO. Wyatt had been the company’s COO since 2005, and will continue to be responsible for Cigital’s overall management and strategy. A 25-year technology industry veteran, Wyatt previously served as CEO of Ariel Research, a services firm around chemical manufacturing.
EARNINGS
Web development and application development company Bridgeline Software reported revenue of US$21,295,000 for fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2008, a 91% increase over its revenues of $11,151,000 in fiscal 2007.
Adobe Systems reported financial results for its fourth quarter and fiscal year ended Nov. 28, 2008. For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008, Adobe reported revenue of US$915.3 million, compared to $911.2 million reported for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 and $887.3 million reported in the third quarter of fiscal 2008.
Oracle reported fiscal 2009 second-quarter net income of US$1.3 billion, down 1% from a year ago. Second-quarter GAAP total revenues were up 6% from the year before to $5.6 billion, and GAAP software revenues were up 8% to $4.5 billion. However, new software license revenues were down 3% to $1.6 billion.
Progress Software announced its fourth quarter 2008 results, reporting revenue of US$139 million, up 2% from $137 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007. Software license revenue increased 4% to $56.1 million from $53.8 million in the same quarter last year.
Red Hat announced fiscal year 2009 third-quarter earnings, reporting total revenue for the quarter of US$165.3 million. That total was an increase of 22% from the year-ago quarter and 1% from the prior quarter. Net income for the third quarter was $24.3 million, compared with $20.3 million in the same quarter a year ago.
TIBCO Software announced fiscal 2008 fourth-quarter revenue of US$185.5 million, down slightly from $186.1 million reported in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007. Net income for the fourth quarter was $32.3 million, compared to $27.6 million in the same period a year before.
