January 14, 2009 —  A component supplier has developed customizable Silverlight controls, cross-compatible with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), and can be used to create business applications.

Zenexis this week released its ZenEssential components suite, an assortment of 17 controls designed for Silverlight 2 and WPF 3.5. The controls are compatible with Microsoft Expression Blend for skinning and styling, the company says.

The suite provides API and design consistency among the controls, as well as a containment architecture that allows developers to nest controls within one another. There is also support for localization.

"We are relying on the internationalization support built into Silverlight by Microsoft," said Tom Grandgent, lead software architect at Zenexis. "It is minimal at this point, and we have no custom solution for that [internationalization] right now.

Controls in the suite support data binding and data virtualization. Zenexis supports the data-binding model that is built into Silverlight and WPF, said Grandgent. "Virtualization is supported by some controls where it makes sense, such as in a treeview control," he added.

Supported browsers include Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari.
