Letters to the Editor: JavaFX for Eclipse?

It looks like the Eclipse plug-in mentioned in the article "JavaFX makes the scene" is as yet unavailable. Sun still seems to be letting politics get ahead of what's best for the products it releases. It needs as many developers as possible using JavaFX if it is to have any chance of success against the likes of Silverlight, so Eclipse should have been top of the list for developer support.

UML conformance
Regarding your article "Microsoft vows M models will work with OMG's spec for DSL": I am happy that you took the time to get most facts straight, but disappointed that you felt the need to imply that I was "countering" IBM's position. That wasn't my intent, nor my words.

Specifically, I think you slightly misunderstood IBM's position on
TOGAF, DoDAF and MoDAF—I don't believe they intended to say that one needs to support those frameworks in order to support UML (and as I said, that support is not necessary to claim UML conformance). Their point (and their point only) is that Microsoft should be supporting those and other higher-level profiles, not just UML.

OMG values all of its members, including both IBM and Microsoft (listed in alphabetical order), and I take positions
specifically on the standards that are owned by all of OMG's
membership, not on the competitive positions of our members.

Thanks, Max!
It is a good time to sum up the past year. Let me at this edge say, "Thank you" for best software digest.

Preflight builds nothing new
Glad to see that build tools still come up as good topics for SD Times articles ("Preflight builds spread wings for smoother projects"). Jeff Feinman's article on preflight builds covered what most developers want to achieve using preflight, or what we call pre-commit builds.

Related Search Term(s): continuous integration, Eclipse, Java, preflight builds, UML, IBM, Microsoft, OMG
