DevExpress to ship ASP.NET controls for SharePoint

A component maker is preparing to release an assortment of ASP.NET gauges, controls that can integrate with SharePoint, and Windows Forms components for displaying event-based alerts and skinning application interfaces.

Within a week, Developer Express will ship the final version of DXperience v2008 vol 3, which features many new controls that serve a multitude of purposes. Previews of upcoming controls are also included.

For this release, DevExpress has ported 130 of its Windows Forms gauge control presets to ASP.NET. Other new ASP.NET controls include a filter editor that adds multiple conditions and filter values to data controls; a control that, without requiring any specialized coding, displays an image from a database; and a control for callback visualization to notify users of operations in progress.

The controls are all compliant with the U.S. government's Section 508 disability act and the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Accessibility Initiative.

DevExpress has enabled its Grid View and HTML Editor ASP.NET controls to run within SharePoint portals that have been built with both Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Services 2007. A SharePoint add-on allows codeless integration into pages, according to the company.

On the Windows Forms side of the suite, DevExpress added a new alert component that mimics the indicator that Microsoft uses in Office Outlook to notify users when new mail arrives. It also added two additional visual styles to its Application Wide Themes skinning controls.

Some changes are common to both ASP.NET and Windows Forms. DevExpress has added new types of bubble charts, logarithmic scales and Fibonacci indicators to its XtraCharts product.

Beta builds of DevExpress' WPF charts, navigation bar, and carousel and grid controls are bundled into the release. A copy of a Windows Forms rich text editing control is also available with a go-live license. The text editing control will remain in beta until DXperience v2009 vol 1 becomes available in February, said Kevin White, DevExpress' director of marketing.
