InterSystems' DeepSee works with transactional apps
September 22, 2008 —
An integration software maker has created a business intelligence product that embeds into transactional applications, providing what it says are more actionable results than are obtainable with business intelligence suites that rely on data warehouses.
Today, InterSystems introduced DeepSee, a business intelligence product for Linux, Mac OS X, OpenVMS, Unix and Windows that integrates with C++, Java and .NET applications, according to Paul Grabscheid, vice president of strategic planning. Pricing begins at US$6,000.
A data model underpins DeepSee, giving data elements people-friendly names and organizing elements into subject areas, Grabscheid said. Data is accessed in place and is embedded into application workflows.
In addition, Java Database Connectivity and ODBC “connectors” permit DeepSee to pull in data from external sources.
Data is seen in real time, not after the fact, Grabscheid said. He noted that historical data can be satisfactory for long-range planning by staff analysts, but that access to “fresh operational data” is more appropriate for daily decision making.
InterSystems bundles a starter set of dashboards, graphs and reports. A designer lets developers create custom dashboards and charts to extend their applications.
DeepSee also provides an external reporting tool called Analyzer. Analyzer is a browser-based Web service for end users that enables drag-and-drop creation of graphs and pivot tables, drill-downs into detailed data, and output of reports to Microsoft Excel, PDFs, printers or, simply, the screen.
