Artisan adds integrations to modeling software
September 3, 2008 —
Artisan Software Tools, a provider of modeling tools for embedded systems, has added integrations with similar products and more Model Driven Development techniques in its main modeling product.
Artisan Studio has interoperability with architectural frameworks, OMG SysML and UML. Version 7.0, released yesterday, has a new bi-directional Doors Synchronizer that strengthens the product’s graphical SysML requirements traceability management, using information from Telelogic’s Doors requirements definition and management product, the company said.
The Simulink Synchronizer gives systems engineers the ability to define function block diagrams in MathWorks' Simulink model-based design environments and to export them into an Artisan Studio SysML model for further development. The Simulink Synchronizer lets engineers integrate parametric equations, requirements and code with full control of information mapping between Simulink and Studio.
A 3-Way Sandbox Merging feature in Artisan Studio 7.0 provides an area for multiple development teams to work on the same model without duplicating items.
“Artisan Studio has delivered a collaborative working environment to thousands of users across an extensive range of complex applications in the most demanding industry sectors,” said James B. Gambrell, president and CEO of Artisan. “Its centralized data repository relieves companies of the significant management overhead generally associated with multi-user systems and software development, and its unique domain-specific profiling capability enables it to be easily tailored to support project needs associated with Architectural Frameworks such as DoDAF (Department of Defense Architecture Framework) and AUTOSAR (Automotive Open System Architecture).”
In attempting to reinforce its commitment to Object Management Group’s Model Driven Architecture, the company said Artisan Studio 7.0 allows additional Model Driven Development techniques, along with C# automatic code generation. The C# code generation model contains default design patterns that specify the mapping from UML to C#, which can be altered by engineers to manage it as a project artifact.
There are new debugging capabilities on multiple remote targets because of improved integrations with Wind River’s VxWorks RTOS debugging product. Artisan executives said version 7.0 can manage threading and queuing issues that arise within embedded real-time applications. Engineers and developers can also depict current values or attributes, as well as a model’s behavioral characteristics, which can be used to validate a model by injecting errors into it.
Artisan Studio’s component sharing wizard now allows the sharing of components between product variants in a controlled manner. This allows System and Software Product Line development in Artisan Studio, the company said.
Additionally, Artisan Studio 7.0 has new interface functions that let the user reorder tabs in browsers, hide and dock panes, and use the keyboard to move around views.
