Ounce brings in former Quova exec as CEO

September 1, 2008 —  Ounce Labs has brought in veteran executive Gary Jackson as CEO as it looks to expand its market presence in source code analysis. Jackson succeeds Hugh Scandrett, who remains available in what the company called a consultancy role.

While Ounce Labs didn’t offer a precise reason for the leadership change, the company said the board of directors and the executive team made the decision as they reviewed the company’s growth strategy for the next few years.

“Hugh was instrumental in getting Ounce to its industry-leading status in the market, including achieving 300% revenue growth from 2006 to 2007,” said Claudia Dent, Ounce Labs’ senior vice president of product marketing. “Gary is ideally suited to take Ounce to the next level and has a superior track record for growing successful small companies into even more successful enterprises.”

Jackson, who took the helm at Waltham, Mass.-based Ounce on Aug. 7, has more than 25 years of experience in executive roles with various companies. Most recently, he was COO at IP intelligence company Quova, where he is credited with having created the international sales and customer service teams.

Jackson was also president of Ozro, a company that specialized in on-line contract negotiation, and senior vice president of Vantive, a customer relationship management company.

“Three key elements provide the foundation for a successful company: superior technology, broad market opportunity and a strong employee base,” Jackson said. “Ounce Labs hits on all three fronts. In the coming months, I will be working with our team to expand Ounce Labs’ global presence.”

Jack Danahy, Ounce Labs’ founder and CTO, said Jackson is the right CEO to continue Ounce’s success.

Ounce Labs was founded in 2002. The Ounce security source code analysis tool scans complex enterprise applications to eliminate errors in code, according to the company.
