Reporting for duty: JasperSoft for NetBeans, MySQL

Business intelligence tool maker JasperSoft on Wednesday released iReport for NetBeans IDE, including support for NetBeans 6.5, which was announced the same day.

iReport is used to design reports and dashboards within the open-source reporting solution JasperReports. The NetBeans plug-in has been available in beta since December, according to the company. NetBeans is the open-source Java development environment maintained by Sun Microsystems.

The company also announced that Jasper for MySQL has been updated; this OEM version of JasperSoft's Business Intelligence Suite has all the features built into JasperSoft, which was updated to version 3 earlier this summer.

"NetBeans provides the vehicle through which much of the Java community collaborates in creating Web-tier applications," said JasperSoft vice president of business development Jose Morales in a news release announcing the products.

JavaOne '08 agenda: NetBeans tune-up, MySQL and a year of OpenJDK Sun seeks to quell doubts that its OpenJDK, released before last year's JavaOne, arrived too late to satisfy developers. It will try to do so by touting its acquisition of MySQL.

Sun extends Groovy, PHP support to NetBeans Version 6.5 of the IDE will see complete support for those two languages along with complete support for JavaScript and a separate, limited preview of Python support. The company says that it has increased the quality of NetBeans' Java code as well.

Sun releases JavaFX 1.0 for Web development Sun's platform may be Java's ticket into the RIA world, and it features the first native Java video codec. The company hopes that it will be able to supplant its two biggest competitors, Adobe Flex and Microsoft Silverlight 2.
