EdNotes: UML Creator at EclipseWorld

August 13, 2008 —  World-famous computer scientist Ivar Jacobson will deliver a keynote at EclipseWorld 2008, which takes place Oct. 26-28 at the Hyatt Regency, Reston, Va. His afternoon speech is one of two keynotes on the opening day of an event considered one of the leading conferences for enterprise Java developers using Eclipse.

Jacobson is credited early in his career with the invention of use cases, which he developed as a means to identify functional requirements of software while working at Ericsson. As early as 1967, also while employed by the Swedish telecom giant, he proposed the use of software for controlling telephone switches, which led to his invention of sequence diagrams. These ideas, of course, form the basis for the Unified Modeling Language that he developed with Grady Booch and James Rumbaugh. IJC, Jacobson's consulting business, spans four continents.

Also on hand with his own keynote to address the general conference assembly with will be Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation since 2004.

Your last chance to get the best rates is to register by Aug. 22. Conference organizer BZ Media, which also produces this newsletter, has worked out an additional discount if you use JetBlue to fly to the conference. I hope to see you there.
