N Software betas SharePoint workflow extensions

August 8, 2008 —
Eyeing Microsoft SharePoint as a platform for composite applications, a component maker has introduced workflow activity extensions for SharePoint that add communications and file transfer capabilities.

On Aug. 1, N Software introduced seven beta workflow extensions for SharePoint. They provide for e-mail, FTP, RSS, SSH, SMS, SNPP (alphanumeric paging) and XPMM (Jabber instant messaging) activities.

The betas are freely available; pricing details for retail have not yet been determined.

The extensions are set up by end users as triggers, explained N Software's vice president of marketing, Eric Madariaga. Some examples of triggers include sending an SMS message when a document list is updated and exporting a file to a secure location when it is modified.

In the coming months, N Software will introduce components for integrating Web services, including Amazon's EC2, S3 and SimpleDB, to push and pull information from SharePoint, said Madariaga.

The company also intends to migrate its line up BizTalk adapters to SharePoint, he added.
