AccuRev and Rally partner on agile solution

July 1, 2008 —
An agile development toolmaker has teamed with a developer of change and configuration management software to create a combination designed for agile processes.

AccuRev and Rally Software announced today the availability of a beta of AccuBridge for Rally, which melds AccuRev’s software change and configuration management (SCCM) expertise with Rally’s experience in agile life-cycle management.

AccuBridge can manage multiple agile processes and provide customer feedback, visibility and traceability between defects, issues and tasks and the changes in source code that address them, the company said.

The design of AccuBridge also permits teams to work in parallel or to pull out a branch of code and develop it independently before moving it back into the mainstream build.

If tools are not designed for agile processes, they can be as much a hindrance as they are a help, said Forrester Research senior analyst Jeffrey Hammond. Agile teams develop by quickly iterating, he added, and the right tools can help them succeed.

A partnership such as the one between AccuRev and Rally was a prerequisite to the development of a suite of SCCM tools that organizations can use to ease a move to agile processes, said Cliff Utstein, vice president of business development for AccuRev.
