Jamcracker offers integration toolkit for SaaS providers

April 9, 2008 —
Jamcracker, one of the software-as-a-service enablement companies that have begun to serve the SaaS market, introduced the Jamcracker Integration Toolkit (JIT) today, making it possible to provide SaaS offerings through the Jamcracker Services Delivery Network.

JIT is an XML-based framework that enables the publishing of software services to the JSDN Global Services Catalog, the company stated. With the toolkit, says the company, the products can be made JSDN-ready even without in-depth knowledge of the Jamcracker Platform. SaaS ISVs in the JSDN can also use Jamcracker services to handle their billing, provisioning, customer support and administrative tasks.

Jamcracker also said it provides ISV developer support as well as certification and acceptance testing of the JSDN adapter.

Other companies serving the SaaS enablement market include NaviSite, OpSource and WebAppCabaret. The SaaS enablement space is expected to grow along in coming years with overall demand for SaaS.

The research firm Gartner Inc. forecasts SaaS worldwide revenue to achieve a compound annual growth rate of 22.1% through 2011, as more businesses choose to access software applications through the Internet rather than buy a license to run software directly on their network. Gartner said in an August 2007 report that SaaS revenue, which it estimated at US$5.1 billion for 2007, could grow to $11.5 billion by 2011.

But SaaS growth may be limited to small-to-medium businesses instead of large enterprises, said John Andrews, CEO of Evans Data, which hosted a developer conference April 7 and 8 in Redwood City, Calif. Large enterprises are less likely to embrace SaaS because their IT systems are so vast, said Andrews, and it’s difficult for them to make decisions quickly and they can be reluctant to share proprietary company data outside their firewalls with a SaaS provider.
