Pulse Senses Eclipse Pressure Points

Email    print
November 7, 2007 —  Think of it as an iTunes for the Eclipse iPod. Just as Apple's music player needed the company's song-downloading service to get off the ground, Genuitec is sensitive to the trouble Eclipse users have with acquiring the latest plugins and keeping them working together properly.

The maker of MyEclipse yesterday launched Pulse, a free tool and download service that it says permits Eclipse developers to "locate, install and maintain multiple Eclipse profiles." Profiles are groups of plugins that can be created and shared with others. Right now Pulse is for Windows only, but the company plans to release Linux and Max versions. The product was made public at the EclipseWorld 2007 conference.

Software engineer Chris Aniszczyk, who tested the new product for Genuitec, posted on his blog this Pulse pictorial of his experience, which I would characterize as mostly positive.

Aniszczyk's caveat was that Pulse needs more community involvement (right now it's only Genuitec). He's also concerned about the process of submitting plugins for inclusion on the Pulse list, which involves going through an "autocratic process," he says in his post. To get started, contact Genuitec here.
