SAN FRANCISCO — The Moscone North convention center was filled with booths and attendees of the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo held here during the week of Aug. 6, Here are some highlights from the show:

Access announced the availability of a mobile Linux evaluation kit, optimized for the Marvell “Monahans” PXA30x and PXA31x application processors. The company claims that its preintegrated kit allows customers to evaluate its mobile Linux platform on real hardware without worrying about low-level system integration. Access also announced that it had incorporated components of Code Sourcery’s Sourcery G++, including the compiler, into the Access software and product development kits.

Apatar unveiled its on-demand, open source data integration suite, in the form of Apatar Enterprise Data Mashups, a tool set that provides a visual mashup designer for creating integration jobs or DataMaps, and ApatarForge, a service that allows the publication and reuse of DataMaps. The tools work with a wide variety of data sources, are Java-based and run on both Windows and Linux.

Concurrent announced the release of new versions of its NightStar LX analysis and debugging tools. The updated tools add the ability to run on Novell’s SUSE Enterprise Linux lineup to its support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. NightStar LX 4.1 includes an overhauled GUI designed for multicore environments, while the new application illumination feature allows programmers to trace function calls and examine parameter values.

JasperSoft and MySQL jointly announced the general availability of Jasper for MySQL: OEM Edition 2.0, aimed at providing a reporting solution that can be embedded in MySQL-based products. The OEM edition provides Java APIs for deep integration, as well as C/C++ and PHP interfaces and visible source code. It also offers a reskinnable user interface for custom branding and an HTTP URL-addressable repository.

Palamida announced the completion of code analysis for the Lightweight Authentication Module, a component of the Open Solution Alliance’s Common Customer View prototype. The alliance enlisted Palamida to perform an audit of the intellectual property used in the LAM, to ensure that potential licensing issues would not affect this “first major fruit of the OSA’s collaborative efforts,” as OSA spokesperson Barry Klawans described it.
