HP Shows Its Hand at Las Vegas Triple Play

July 15, 2007 —  Last month in the land of casinos and spectaculars, Hewlett-Packard held a three-ring event of its own, hosting three conferences at the same time.

HP Technology Forum, HP Americas StorageWorks Conference and HP Software Universe ran from June 18-21 in Las Vegas, kicking the company’s summer into gear amidst the ambient sounds of high rollers and slot machines.

While HP’s biggest news came with the acquisition of Web application security assessment software and services provider SPI Dynamics, the company did release a new set of compliance-focused tools, and an update to its quality management suite.

The new HP Secure Advantage tools are meant to protect data and resources, and validate regulatory compliance through the IT process. A main feature of Secure Advantage is the Compliance Log Warehouse, which collects and analyzes data in order to automate compliance reporting for industry standards, including the PCI payment card requirements. The Compliance Log Warehouse analyzes security data as part of internal and external audits, and scans log record data to ensure policies are followed. Another important part of the portfolio is HP Identity Center, which is an identity and access management tool that automates security compliance and management across disparate systems.

“HP Secure Advantage delivers integrated security into heterogeneous IT infrastructures to help customers optimize business outcomes,” explained Scott Stallard, senior vice president of enterprise storage and servers for HP.

Also announced during HP’s Las Vegas conferences was an update to HP’s Quality Center, adding business requirements and quality management capabilities that are integrated into a real-time system. HP LoadRunner, the load testing and Web performance testing software acquired with Mercury Interactive last year, has been updated to offer performance testing of SOAs and rich Internet applications.
