Oracle Acquires Tangosol

March 26, 2007 —
Oracle has acquired the Tangosol product portfolio of in-memory data grid software to strengthen its extreme transaction processing (XTP) middleware. XTP creates distributed applications that perform grid-based in-memory computations, real-time analytics and high-performance transactions. The announcement came last Friday.

Tangosol’s solutions, together with Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle TimesTen and Oracle Database, complete Oracle’s platform for this type of transaction processing.

"Modern architectures like SOA, Web 2.0 and EDA are enabling more agile business processes and applications," said Tangosol CEO Cameron Purdy. "However, those same architectures are driving the demand for high-performance access to shared data, creating a very heavy burden on back-end data processing services. Oracle and Tangosol can together address the need for a comprehensive data virtualization strategy that can both relieve the load on back-end infrastructures while maintaining or increasing performance."
