December 1, 2005 —  With Microsoft’s release last month of Visual Studio 2005 and .NET Framework 2.0, companies are using the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon to integrate their software with Microsoft’s.

Red Gate Software has announced support for Visual Studio 2005 in its ANTS profiler and support for SQL Server 2005 in its full SQL product line. ANTS profiler helps to identify slow code and memory problems and enables developers to boost performance of their .NET Framework-based applications.

Vista Software has unveiled a free update of its VistaDB 2.1 SQL database engine for .NET. Improvements include a royalty-free two-user SQL database server with a 700KB footprint.

AVIcode is developing with Microsoft the Design for Operations Starter Kit, which will provide a bridge between Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System. It will enable developers to integrate and automate the communication necessary to monitor and manage application issues. The bridge will automatically generate a Visual Studio work item whenever a monitored application throws an exception.

Charonware has released version 2.22 of CASE Studio 2 database modeling tools with support for SQL 2005 and improved generation of HTML reports.

Fortify Software has introduced Fortify Security Tester. It provides white-box security testing, enabling quality assurance and testing professionals to simulate hacker attacks and pinpoint the root cause of security vulnerabilities. Pricing is US$499 per year.

SpeeDev has deployed SpeeDev 4.8, which enables development houses to have their software designers, architects, developers and testers participate in complete development life-cycle management from within their native Visual Studio 2005 Team System interface. According to the company, benefits come from using new mirroring and peer-to-peer replication technology.

SPI Dynamics unveiled DevInspect and SecureObjects. DevInspect finds Web applications and Web services security vulnerabilities; SecureObjects fixes vulnerabilities found by DevInspect by targeting input-driven security defects and insecure coding within the application.

Compuware’s DevPartner Studio 8.0 and Fault Simulator 1.5 offer developers a way to find and fix defects early in the life cycle, institutionalize best practices for improved quality, and increase their productivity though development advice. Included is DevPartner Fault Simulator SE, providing fault simulation capabilities that make debugging error-handling code an extension to a developer’s usual debugging technique.

Sophisticated Business Systems launched DB-Shuttle .NET, which provides rapid legacy system conversion and deployment to the .NET Framework. It also supports new technology though open data structures and easy-to-support programming languages, and provides integrated applications and Internet functionality.
