COMPANIES
IBM has created the IBM Cloud Academy, a forum for educators and IT personnel from academia to pursue cloud-computing initiatives, develop skills and share best practices. Seventeen educational institutions worldwide will be the first participants in the Cloud Academy, among them George Mason University, Beijing University of Technology and Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.

NEW PRODUCTS
Yahoo has created an open-source version of its Traffic Server application server for builders of cloud services. Traffic Server enables the session management and authentication of cloud computing stacks, and Yahoo executives said making it open source enables faster responses to requests for stored Web objects, such as files, news articles or images.

UPDATES
Zend Technologies has made its Zend Server Web application server available through Oracle’s Unbreakable Linux Network. Zend executives said this helps speed installation of PHP-based Web applications. Zend Server already had integration capabilities with the Oracle Database.

Bredex has released GUIdancer 3.2, an automated functional tester, increasing the tests that can be written for components such as tabbed panes, tables and context menus. GUIdancer executives said these additions boost the tester’s library to over 100 test actions.

VMLogix, a virtual machine management company, will integrate with Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization. According to company executives, this will allow users to consolidate labs leveraging Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, and allows for the use of VMLogix LabManager to automate lab IT infrastructure.

Intersoft has released WebUI Studio R1 SP1, bringing new integrations with ASP.NET and Silverlight, along with integration with SharePoint Server 2010. Also new in the release are automatic key value assignment for GUID data types, and the ability to add new rows when batch updates are enabled in WebGrid.

CollabNet has released CollabNet Desktop Visual Studio Edition 2.0. The release focuses on offering Microsoft Visual Studio developers the features of the TeamForge ALM platform and the Subversion software configuration manager. Visual Studio users can perform Subversion tasks, such as viewing the status of source code or committing changes, without leaving Visual Studio through a component called AnkhSVN, the company said.
