Connotate toolkit brings in custom logic

November 2, 2009 —
Connotate Technologies is ready to release a developer's toolkit that adds custom logic to its intelligent software agents technology. Agents are used to pull content from websites, which is filtered and published as services for information access and analysis. The toolkit was released yesterday.

Developers use a visual agent to select what elements that they want from a website, then input a schema mapping. Internet Explorer's browsing engine is used to render the pages. The agent then generates C# code to build Web services with SOAP.

The SDK opens up those services and makes it possible for developers to modify the C# code in Visual Studio, said Connotate CEO Bruce Molloy. That makes it possible to call out to other applications with custom code, or to embed logic into the services, he explained.

For example, financial data from the Web can be processed to trigger an alert when a change in gross margins exceeds a historical threshold from a database, added Lokesh Seth, vice president of product engineering for Connotate.

A service could also be integrated with .NET visualization components to display data as a chart.

Different pricing points will be offered according to the size of a customer's organization, said Molloy. Customers who buy the SDK must also purchase the standard intelligent agents studio.
