Adobe has made ColdFusion 8 available for free to students and teachers so it can be integrated into school curricula. Adobe said academic institutions increasingly are looking to have their students develop rich Internet application skills.

New products
Hosted on-demand communications provider IntelePeer has created a technology platform that adds voice, video and data to websites and enterprise software applications. AppworX can deliver voice and multimedia features from within any Web or IP-based application to any phone or network-connected device, according to the company.

Rally Software has released a new product management program that lets product managers and business analysts collect user feedback. Rally Product Manager also lets users display development progress in Rally’s agile life-cycle management product and in Salesforce.com’s CRM system to give non-development stakeholders information on feature requests, the company said.

Sierra Wireless released an SDK that can work with Windows CE operating systems. The SDK offers original equipment manufacturer customers a more streamlined development cycle for devices that use Sierra Wireless 3G embedded modules, according to the company.

Updates
ALM company Aldon has added integration with Zend to increase the use of PHP in its namesake Aldon product suite. The company said PHP developers can gain visibility across Web-centric development projects by using its suite.

Gimpel Software, an analysis and security company, has added static variable tracking and other improvements to version 9.0 of PC-lint for C/C++, a static analyzer for C and C++ programs. The new static variable tracking feature adds to the product’s inter-statement and inter-function value tracking, the company said. Other new features include multithread analysis, stack usage analysis, enhanced message control and message portrayal through HTML output. This is the product’s first update since 2001.

Green Hills Software has made available its u-velOSity microkernel for the ARC 600 Core Family of configurable cores and the ARC Sound Subsystem. The company said u-velOSity is ideal for applications with ARC cores, as it has a ROM footprint of 2KB and service call times as low as 30 cycles. ARC International provides consumer IP to semiconductor companies.

HyperOffice, a collaboration software provider, has put out a Spanish version of its online business collaboration tools. HyperOffice executives said that its product suite is aimed at small and medium businesses growing in Central and South America.

Skyway Software, a provider of rich Internet application products and Web services, added integration with Apple Mac OS X and Oracle WebLogic 10 to the new version of Skyway Builder, its RIA building and deployment product. Skyway Builder 6.0.2 also has improved functionality and expanded binary content controls.

Modeling and flowcharting company SmartDraw has added network and smart website mapping to the new version of its business graphics software. SmartDraw 2009 lets users network according to LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). Additionally, users can type a website domain to generate a site map.

People
Holger Friedrich has been placed on Software AG’s management board and will be responsible for global professional services. Friedrich has held executive positions with McKinsey & Company and SAP, where he served as a senior vice president. He also co-founded SPM Technologies, an IT consulting services firm.

Godfrey Sullivan has been named CEO of search company Splunk, also becoming president and joining the company’s board of directors. Sullivan previously was CEO of performance management software company Hyperion Solutions, which was acquired by Oracle in early 2007. He is also on the board of directors for Informatica and Citrix Systems.
