Logidex 5.5: Governance for Life

May 15, 2007 —
LogicLibrary has taken Logidex beyond the confines of design-time and production SOA governance, to provide governance and share metadata along the entirety of the SOA life cycle. The Logidex 5.5 update became generally available in early May.

Logidex checks for policy conformance and validation issues during the design phase, before services are published. Validation capabilities have been expanded from version 5.0, with integrated XPath-based policy assertion support, and sample policies that validate WS-I Basic Profile mandates, said Alan Himler, LogicLibrary’s CEO.

Logidex’s Smart Controls pass the review activity to users according to their role when human involvement is needed, said LogicLibrary CTO and co-founder Brent Carlson. When a service clears validation and is identified as a candidate for production, Smart Controls automate the transfer of governance responsibilities from role to role, and keep a documented audit trail, Carlson explained.

Smart Controls can now be customized to meet corporate compliance mandates. Logidex 5.5 allows users to define their own checklist-type fields, creating site-specific governance policies, Carlson noted.

A new impact analysis tool sniffs out orchestration, schema and service dependencies, parses Business Process Execution Language, WSDL and XML Schema Definition, then displays results using Logidex’s Asset Relationship Management Visualization, said Himler.

When services are ready for consumption, Logidex can automatically integrate with IBM’s WebSphere Service Registry and Repository to synchronize design-time governance and state management efforts, said Himler. Integration with HP Systinet was also expected to be available in May.

“Customers have realized that developing and deploying [SOA] is not a sequential process, but an iterative and fluid exercise. [They] require solutions that align with this reality,” said Daryl C. Plummer, Gartner fellow and managing vice president.
