Watchfire Introduces Web Site for Extensions

April 16, 2007 —
Watchfire today is introducing a new community Web site for the creation of extensions for its Web application security solution, AppScan 7.5.

The new AppScan Extensions Framework offers a software development kit, allowing developers to create extensions for functionalities that were not previously available in AppScan. Developers can also download extensions created by AppScan that add the ability to display AppScan reports in Microsoft Word, a Microsoft Visual Studio Team System defect export function, and the ability to receive e-mail notifications during a scan.

The other main feature is Pyscan, an integration of the Python scripting language and AppScan that utilizes Web application scanning functions to mix automated and manual efforts, such as customizing a scan to a specific audit. Watchfire officials said that Pyscan is beneficial by automating more manual testing tasks, improving the accuracy of those tests and saving testing time.
