Nokia announced on Thursday that they would be making the Symbian source code open to its platform development partners – this includes developers who worked with the company on the OS, including the operating system itself, middleware and UI layers, according to its blog.
The source code can be viewed at Nokia’s collaboration site, which although it is still under construction, the code can be viewed on Git and all the products on the site are accessible.
A representative from Nokia, Petra Söderling, head of open source, answered the blog comments – and directed application developers to continue to use Nokia’s forum to develop applications and submit them for use on the Symbian OS.
