Welcome to the inaugural segment of "Jeff's Java Jives," a weekly different kind of take on the technology world (and when I say weekly, I mean hopefully weekly. I'll do my best). No executive shall be spared, no company or technology shall be immune. So enjoy what this new segment of the SD Times blog has to offer, or please excuse me for the complete waste of your time....
— Samuel Palmisano has been spotted! Previously thought to have been vigorously playing Guitar Hero and taking ice sculpting lessons for the past four years, the low-profile IBM president and CEO has been talking with government leaders about how technology can improve the environment and urban systems, according to the Wall Street Journal. At the end of his trip, he will return to doing backstrokes with the Loch Ness Monster and playing flight simulator video games with Amelia Earheart.
— Representatives of a well-known application life-cycle management company recently expressed disappointment that they were not included into this year’s SD Times 100 list. Shortly after, Kanye West stormed into SD Times’ New York office shouting, “This company has the best ALM platform ever!”
— When Sun was formally rolled into Oracle, I wonder if Oracle had someone play The Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun.” I think that would have been a good idea.

— Getting personal for a second, I recently had a series of vertigo attacks. Doctors told me the vertigo could have been caused by viral infections, dehydration, or overuse of the phrases “efficiency” and “productivity” by technology company marketing representatives.
— On second thought, scratch that "Here Comes the Sun" idea, that would have been superbly cheese-filled and terrible. Whoever had that idea in the first place should be hit over the head. Oh wait…
— There is talk that BlackBerries will soon be adding Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight. How does one render 3D graphics on a BlackBerry?
— CA CEO John Swainson said he will retire from the company at the end of the 2009. John, here’s hoping that your retirement goes a lot smoother than former CA Chairman and CEO Sanjay Kumar!
