Maybe it was all the St. Patrick's Day shenanigans, but three of the biggest companies in the software world started today off ready to make some news.
First off, speculation is storming about on an IBM deal for Sun Microsystems for nearly US$7 billion, as reported by "The Wall Street Journal" and "New York Times." That would be a huge event for the industry, and it is especially intriguing since M&A activity has been very sparse recently.
Also, Microsoft started off its fourth annual Mix conference in Las Vegas, and there will be plenty of news coming from that.
There was certainly no St. Patty's Day hangover from these guys. Maybe they knocked down a cold glass of Guiness, like I did, and brought that energetic holiday spirit into the new day.
