Today, Microsoft announced that it was partnering with Red Hat to provide virtualization interoperability and support. The companies will test and validate their respective server operating systems running on each other's hypervisors.
As a result of this partnership, customers will be able to deploy virtualized instances of Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) on Microsoft and Red Hat hypervisors, and have those configurations be supported by both companies. Red Hat is participating in Microsoft's Server Virtualization Validation Program, and Microsoft is now a Red Hat partner for virtualization interoperability and support.
Microsoft will also publish Linux Integration Components for RHEL, and Red Hat may produce Windows Hardware Quality Labs drivers for Windows Server SKUs, according to a blog post by Microsoft's general manager of virtualization, Mike Neil.
