Microsoft has confirmed reports that it has begun to distribute alpha copies of Office 14 to a select group of testers. The testers are receiving copies of Microsoft's upcoming "Geneva" Identity Server, Project
Server 14, SharePoint Server 14, SharePoint
Services 14, and Search Server 14, according to "All about Microsoft." They will also have access to Office Web apps, a suite of Web applications that are expected to debut with Office 14, as well as a new member of the Office family that is designed for sales professionals.
The testers were told that they would be receiving a beta release later this year. I would bank on that. When has Microsoft ever released a version of Windows without an Office? Windows 7 is on schedule, and should be arriving before the end of the year - expect Office to ship at or near the same time. There could even be a dual launch event, as a cost cutting measure. Afterall, the company is trying to tighten its belt.
