Borland SilkCentral Integrates With VMware
By
Jeff Feinman
July 15, 2007 —
Borland Software was expected to announce on July 9 the newest version of its automated software test management tool, SilkCentral Test Manager 2007, which will add the ability to integrate with VMware Lab Manager.
SilkCentral Test Manager 2007 delivers support for virtual lab environments, and allows a user to run a test across multiple configurations in an automated fashion, while VMware Lab Manager provides the ability to create a test run that works across multiple platforms and configurations, without the need to set up multiple virtualized images. The combination of the two is meant to reduce the time and cost constraints of maintaining test labs.
The newest version of SilkCentral Test Manager also offers enhanced requirements-based testing capabilities that improve the tools usefulness with Borlands Caliber requirements management software, according to Brad Johnson, director of product marketing for Borland.
Johnson said that with Borlands Open ALM approachthe ability to use any combination of life-cycle tools and catering to a broad range of platformsthe company is trying to help customers improve efficiency and costs within the delivery of software.
Other companies do offer virtual lab management software in the marketplace, but VMware is the leader, Johnson said. About 70% of our customers have told us that theyre using VMware, and we figure if we go after that percent of our market that has VMware in their environment, I think were going to do very well.
