DBMoto 5 Hits More Databases, More Securely
By Edward J. Correia

March 15, 2006 — Sometimes it’s hard to know where data has been. That’s why DBMoto 5, the latest database replication and synchronization engine from Hit Software, now permits visual monitoring and SSL encryption of data as it moves across the wire.

Formerly in C and VB, DBMoto 5 has been completely rewritten in C#.

DBMoto middleware runs on Windows and replicates data from a dozen relational databases—including DB2 for Windows and iSeries, MySQL, Oracle and SQL Server 2005—for use in data warehousing and reporting desktop or browser apps. Version 5 adds support for Gupta, Ingres and PostgreSQL.

CEO Giacomo Lorenzin said that in addition to its more polished look and feel, DBMoto 5 now includes data monitoring. “This gives developers a better feel for the [replication] process,” in real time, he said, and can gain insight for troubleshooting. “People will know what’s going on and have feedback.”

A GUI-based replication tool now includes additional wizards to further simplify the process. “There are complicated situations where you want to replicate multiple databases at the same time. It’s now easier to create groupings and configure multiple replications.”
