OpenLogic Opens Support for Developers
By
Alex Handy
August 3, 2007 —
OpenLogic announced in late July the initiation of two new support options for its customers. The firm, which specializes in offering technical support for open source software packages, has created two new services, targeted at enterprise developers and IT squads who find themselves in trouble when configuring and installing software. The Expert Connect Developer Support and OpenLogic Production Support services both offer phone-based support, to help IT workers better implement technologies such as Apache, ANT, Eclipse, JBoss and JUnit.
For the developers, OpenLogic is offering its Expert Connect support package, with six months of service and business-hour phone support, for US$17,500. IT administrators subscribing to OpenLogic Production Support can expect to receive 24x7 phone support for one year, at a cost of $20,000. Expert Connect subscribers can choose 20 of the 300 projects supported by OpenLogic, and Production Support subscribers can choose 10 of the 300.
Kim Weins, vice president of marketing at OpenLogic, said that many of the calls received at the company were about configuration issues, the sort that come at the beginning of a project. In response, OpenLogic modified its products to better address this need.
“We found many of the calls we were getting were about configuration and integration issues, and performance issues. We basically created Expert Connect Developer Support, which packaged up a set of offerings for a project team creating an applications using open source,” said Weins.
