New Blueprint for Requirements
By David Rubinstein

May 21, 2007 — Canadian requirements company Sofea today is renaming itself Blueprint as it launches into the U.S. market with Blueprint Requirements Center 2007, a role-based tool that the company says can accelerate validation of requirements.

Blueprint is coining the term "requirements life-cycle acceleration" (RLA), which it says comprises three steps—requirements definition, application simulation and validation. Blueprint Requirements Center 2007 ships with a definition suite for the business analyst to use to spell out the requirements, a simulator that developers can use to ensure the application meets functional requirements, and a validation tool for testers.

"We want to take the 70 percent of rework that's done due to poor requirements—they're not well defined, they can't be validated, they're not in a language each user can understand—and get it down to 5 percent. When that happens, people won't need such sophisticated requirements management tools," said Matt Morgan, chief marketing officer at Blueprint.

The company is opening a new headquarters in Toronto, and is adding an office in Atlanta as part of its U.S. expansion. Blueprint Requirements Center 2007 can be seen at www.blueprintsys.com.
