As an educator, a computing professional, and a woman, I am disturbed by the term "brogrammer". Many colleges and universities work diligently and purposefully to attract girls and women to our profession. How discouraging to see/hear the attention being given to this stereotype! Like you, I have long admired Grace Hopper-- even heard her speak! I have encountered another woman to admire: Maria Klawe, now President of Harvey Mudd College. When she was still at UBC, I was impressed with her efforts to reach out to girls and help them to overcome the old sexist stereotypes in sciences and computing.
