Xceed DataGrid offers 3D visualization

August 18, 2008 —  A component maker has introduced a data grid control that leverages the 3D drawing capabilities of Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) for visualization.

Today, Xceed released DataGrid 3.0. The control is written in WPF and features a 3D carousel that provides multiple contact card layouts. The 3D view has the same core capabilities as the control’s pre-existing card and table layouts, said senior developer Pascal Bourque.

End users can switch between and 2D and 3D views while retaining DataGrid’s state, according to the company. The control has 12 different editor controls that are also usable outside of the grid, including a calendar “datepicker” and masked textbox. Several Windows and Microsoft Office oriented themes are supplied for customizing the controls.

The overall performance of DataGrid has been improved in this release, said Bourque. To reduce load times, UI virtualization reduces the number of cells that the control loads down to what is directly visible on the user’s screen. That capability is particularly applicable for working with large datasets, he explained.

Other changes were made under the hood to improve the performance of the control’s data binding and validation infrastructure, he added.

DataGrid 3.0 is available in a Professional Edition that has several support options ranging from standard e-mail support to priority support and access to source code, with a subscription.

An Express edition that has full redistribution rights and an unlimited number of licenses per company is available for free; community forums support
