VersionOne adds Ideas to agile platform

May 27, 2009 —
Got an idea for a new feature in the software you’re using? With VersionOne’s new product, V1: Agile Ideas, users can submit feedback or offer suggestions for new features by communicating directly with the developers writing the code.

The software, released today, is designed to help end users push innovation while strengthening the ties between the developers and users, according to VersionOne CEO Robert Holler. Several tools already exist for this kind of collaborative exchange—most notably Salesforce.com's IdeaExchange—but Holler said VersionOne built its own to tie it tightly to its agile project planning and management platform. “This will let companies get feedback on their product suites, either internally or externally,” Holler said. “It’s important to get the voice of customer.”

With Agile Ideas, companies can set up their own communities to gain insight into their software from the people who use it most. The software supports multiple forums while setting permissions for those who can comment on products. Further, project managers can see who’s generating the feature requests or writing the “stories” to be developed, or which customer or partner is offering the most feedback. This kind of data can be fed into the planning cycle for the next version of the software, Holler emphasized. “This allows for some [better] tactical planning.”

Today's release also adds single sign-on authentication through integrations with CA SiteMinder software and IBM Tivoli Access Manager, as well as more integrations with life-cycle tools, including Automated QA TestComplete for test management, IBM Rational ClearQuest for defect management, and JetBrains TeamCity for continuous builds.
