Top five apps to manage your workload

Most employees around the world would say yes and add that they’ve got at least one, two or more that they handle digitally or with a group. Handling massive to-do lists takes some coordination, and these five Web applications help you stay on top of your workload from anywhere—and “anywhen”—in the world.

Asana
Asana is a project management tool that helps teams collaborate with one another, track to-do items, and monitor teams from any desktop or mobile application. It provides a way for teams to stay in sync while working at different locations, on different projects or in different time zones. It also offers keyboard shortcuts, calendar syncs and people views, so a manager can identify tasks by employee and by project.

Basecamp
Basecamp, by 37 Signals, is also a project management tool. It has a file repository as well as a calendar plug-in to help teams stay on top of projects, deadlines and assets. Pricing starts at US$49 per month, and the company offers a free 30-day trial. It also has a mobile application for Web portals to help teams work on the go.

Teambox
Teambox is free for up to five users, and it integrates with Google Docs, Google Calendar and Dropbox. With a social network-like interface, all conversations are stored inside Teambox to help keep track of what’s done and what needs to be done. This tool also includes time tracking to help freelancers and consultants show how much time was spent on a project.

Things
Things, from Cultured Code, is a Mac-based application for developers looking to keep all of their tasks in one place. This includes integration with iCal as well as the ability to assign tasks to others on your team. iPhone and iPad applications are also available.

TaskMerlin
A Windows-based program, TaskMerlin allows you to have a simple to-do list and complex projects managed in one interface. It is Windows 7-compatible and can be used with David Allen’s GTD methodology.
