Zeichick's Take: Gearing up for EclipseWorld

Email    print
September 18, 2008 —  It's funny that next week is the Software Test & Performance Conference (Sept. 24–26 in Boston), but my thoughts are swirling around EclipseWorld 2008 (Oct. 28-30 in Reston, Va.).

Perhaps one reason is because I got really inexpensive airfare to Virginia—only US$319 round-trip from San Francisco to Reston on Virgin America. Or perhaps it's because I'm super-excited about our keynote speakers. Everyone in the Eclipse community knows Mike Milinkovich, of course; he's the executive director of the Eclipse Foundation. Mike is very active and visible, and we're delighted that he's our opening keynote speaker.

In fitting with EclipseWorld 2008's tight focus on Java development, we're thrilled that Ivar Jacobson will be our afternoon keynote speaker on Wednesday. He's one of the pioneers in components and component architectures, use cases and aspect-oriented development. As one of the "Three Amigos," he's one of the inventors of the Unified Modeling Language and the Rational Unified Process. These days, he's been focusing on practice-oriented development, and I'm looking forward to learning more about it.

As you get ready to attend EclipseWorld, be sure to book your hotel early. We have special rates with the Hyatt Regency Reston that are set to expire on Oct. 8, but there aren't many rooms left at the lowest price. You can make reservations online or call the hotel to book the room. Be sure to identify yourself as an EclipseWorld attendee.

While we're talking about discounts, the "Early Bird" rates expire next Friday, Sept. 26. After that, the price goes up by $300 for the three-day conference.

See you at EclipseWorld!
