COMPANIES
Terminal emulation and legacy integration software maker BlueZone Software and automated software testing company SmarteSoft are offering a suite of test automation software to developers and enterprises maintaining legacy applications on IBM System i and System z servers. BlueZone executives said combining BlueZone with SmarteSoft’s SmarteScript and SmartX applications gives System i and z users SmarteSoft’s automated reporting features.

Computer scientists at Yale University have created the HadoopDB open-source data management hybrid system. HadoopDB was created from components including Apache Hadoop data-sorting technology, Hive (the internal Hadoop project created by Facebook) and PostgreSQL.

NEW PRODUCTS
Data center product provider Emulex has released a software development kit for target mode drivers. The TargetConnect target mode software developer kit lets data center managers build and deploy Intel architecture-based storage products using Emulex Small Computer System Interface target mode drivers, the company said.

UPDATES
The Apache Foundation has announced the availability of Apache Felix FileInstall version 2.0.0, which keeps an eye on a directory in OSGi systems. Any OSGi bundles placed in that directory are automatically run, and file behaviors transfer to the OSGi server: delete the bundle and it stops running, update the bundle and it will be updated while running.

Oracle's Berkeley DB, the company's XML database, has received a number of performance enhancements, including new B-tree compressions, as well as new locking and latching code to help speed performance on SMP systems.

Application development company CAST Software has added new analysis capabilities for finding source code security problems to CAST Application Intelligence Platform version 6.4. The data flow security analyzer can spot problems with the way applications handle errors, and it can help prevent misuse of APIs, company executives said. Also new in the platform is a dashboard that gives users more ways to look at snapshots of applications.

Veryant has updated its isCOBOL application platform. isCOBOL Web Direct 2.0 connects COBOL applications to the cloud, while isCOBOL SQL Server adds a flexible relational database engine to ISAM files without changing current program code or data. This eliminates the need to choose between maintaining Indexed Sequential Access Method files or moving to a mainstream RDBMS to meet evolving requirements, the company said.
