Black Duck has a new downloadable Code Search Plug-in for Visual Studio 2010. The plug-in, offered for free, enables developers to search code from numerous repositories without leaving the Visual Studio environment. It also increases opportunities for code re-use with VS 2010 by scanning code using a background agent.

TestPlant is offering a Windows version of its eggPlant test automation software, which uses image recognition to “see” the interface on whichever device is being tested. Any icon, text or image that can be viewed by the human eye can be recognized and remembered by eggPlant. Once trained by a test operator, eggPlant can robotically repeat simple or highly complex test procedures time after time, reporting failures by capturing screen images. The company already offers versions for Linux and Mac OS X.

A new open-source scanning tool from OpenLogic can identify the reuse of more than 6 billion lines of source code. OSS Deep Discovery has an expanded library containing data on more than 330,000 open-source projects. Pricing begins at US$5,000.

More than 1,600 math routines are included in the multicore library released by Numerical Algorithms Group. The new NAG Library for SMP and Multicore contains mathematical and statistical algorithms optimized for performance on multicore architectures.

UPDATES
The latest version of Devart’s data management software makes it easier for developers and DBAs to edit data queries. dbForge Query Builder 1.50 has an improved data editor that reduces the time it takes to make queries; automatic connection recovery without generating errors; and easier ways to set up databases for script execution when working with a SQL document. The software costs US$49.95.

Gomez Platform, a cross-browser and device testing system from Compuware, now supports the Apple iPad. Developers can test how their websites perform and render on the iPad, as well as diagnose and fix application performance issues before or after deployment.

New Relic has announced its hosted application performance management software, RPM, now supports Microsoft Azure, including SQL Azure and AppFabric. Developers can use this product to identify bottlenecks and monitor the performance of apps built and deployed on Azure.
