Data Watch: Drop noted in corporate software spending

September 15, 2008 — Corporate software spending has taken a hit over the last 90 days, with one quarter of company executives saying their company has spent less on software in that time period than it had in the previous 90 days, according to a survey conducted by RBC Capital Markets. 1,902 executives involved with their company’s software procurement decisions were surveyed, RBC Capital Markets said.

»	25% of survey respondents expect their companies to spend less on corporate software over the next 90 days than in the previous 90 days; 12% expect their companies to spend more.
»	44% said their company has no plans to purchase software over the next 90 days.
»	30% said their company doesn’t need to purchase new software; 14% say market conditions are preventing them from purchasing new software.
»	28% said their company’s capital budget for the current quarter has been adjusted downward in the last 90 days; 9% said their budget has been increased in that time period.
