March 2, 2009 —  The current economic climate will accelerate the growth prospects for the software-as-a-service model, according to research gathered by IDC. IDC said that organizations feel that SaaS allows for relatively easy expansion during hard times. Below are some figures from the research:

- Worldwide SaaS growth will increase 40.5% in 2009 compared to 2008.

- The percentage of U.S. firms that plan to spend at least 25% of their budgets on SaaS applications will increase from 23% in 2008 to nearly 45% in 2010.

- By the end of 2009, 76% of U.S. organizations will use at least one SaaS-delivered application for business use.
