Low-cost models bolstered global PC shipments in the third quarter as the economy sagged, according to a new IDC report. Year-over-year growth came in just shy of expectations, at 15.8%. The U.S. competitive landscape remained fairly stable, though Apple saw shipments shoot up 32% year over year. Volume leaders Dell and Hewlett-Packard also logged increases.
