April 1, 2010 —  The SCO Group has received bankruptcy court approval for US$2 million in secured credit from a group of private lenders to continue operating and covering administrative and litigation-related costs. The company said it will use the money to stay afloat while it sells off assets. The company will continue to support its UNIX customers and pursue its patent-infringement cases against IBM and Novell, among others, it said in a statement.

Open-source license detection and protection software provider OpenLogic has created the M&A Open Source Audit Service for use by organizations doing a merger or acquisition that involves technology assets that might include open-source software. Open-source insight should be part of a standard due-diligence process, the company said. The service includes OpenLogic’s Deep Scanning technology, which offers users a full audit of all open-source software that is part of any acquisition; a summary report that shows the steps an organization has taken to be in compliance with open-source licenses and copyrights; and limited indemnification on the code tested, the company said. The Deep Scanning technology is part of OpenLogic’s OSS Deep Discovery tool, which scans source code and binaries for open-source licenses.
