Aragon Consulting acquires Krugle

February 17, 2009 —  Source code search engine startup Krugle won't be searching for new venture capital anymore. The two-year-old company was acquired today by software outsourcing and international consulting firm Aragon Consulting Group. The deal has been in the works since December and will bring the Krugle enterprise and public search applications under the umbrella of Aragon.

Mel Badgett, formerly of Krugle and now vice president of marketing at Aragon, said that the acquisition will not harm the publicly available online code search engine hosted at Krugle.org. This free search engine was originally the centerpiece of Krugle, though the company has since expanded into enterprise search tools. Those tools were the primary reason for Aragon's pursuit of the acquisition, said Badgett.

“Aragon had used Krugle in the past and [had] used the Krugle enterprise product. They thought Krugle would be a great addition to their software development services,” said Badgett.

For existing Krugle customers, Badgett said that it will be “business as usual. I think you'll see changes to Krugle Enterprise, specifically in the area of code analytics. I think one of the big pluses is [that] Aragon has deep experience with all the search technology in Krugle. For companies who need a special flavor of the Krugle search, such as database specific search,” or more specific types of search needs, said Badgett, this acquisition is a boon.

“These are things we didn't have time to do as Krugle, but will have the time now as Aragon.”
