2010 SD Times 100 Winner's Profile: CollabNet
By Special to SD Times
Tweet
September 8, 2010 —
The days when a company’s developers all worked in the same building are long gone. Today, teammates are as likely to be on the other side of the world as on the other side of the hallway. CollabNet’s TeamForge’s Web-based infrastructure lets your developers connect, develop and collaborate from any location, either direct from a preferred browser or from the Eclipse and Visual Studio integrated development environments.
CollabNet
was named to the 2010 SD Times 100 list of leaders and innovators in software development.
“Developers are more productive when their tools are well integrated, in one place and offer a consistent user experience,” says Richard Murray, CollabNet’s vice president of worldwide engineering, operations and support. “The TeamForge ALM platform provides a set of integrated tools covering design, code, build and test. The platform integrates a document manager and a flexible issue tracker directly with Subversion for configuration management, with Hudson for continuous build, and with HP Quality Center for requirements and testing. Developers can also provision servers to build and test dynamically in a cloud by using TeamForge’s Lab Management extension.”
Whether distributed or co-located, everyone on your team needs to collaborate with other developers, managers and stakeholders—and that often means sharing or updating assets like a code module, a design document, a software defect report or a technical discussion. TeamForge facilitates collaboration with its discussion forums, mail lists and wikis that can all be associated with any development asset. This asset linkage is also the basis for full life-cycle traceability.
Productivity is also boosted by TeamForge’s global search capability, which provides rapid discovery of people, subject matter experts, project and development artifacts of interest. Enterprise scalability lets managers and executives run enterprise development using one standard platform. Running TeamForge in CollabNet’s SaaS mode gives everyone further peace of mind while reducing IT costs.
“TeamForge’s full and integrated development platform, its collaboration tools and its Web-based infrastructure make it perfect for developers, development teams and managers/executives building products and looking to gain an advantage in today’s on-line and geographically distributed environments,” Murray says.
“TeamForge’s innovative dynamic planning capabilities let managers implement ALM processes rapidly and in just the right way for their project—agile, lean, waterfall, or their own custom approach. Scrum teams can use ScrumWorks for best-of-breed Scrum management capabilities that are tightly integrated with the TeamForge ALM platform.”
